It has been inherited since Nara period, about 1300 years ago.

You will be easily enraptured with the bonfires shined in the dark sky and the stage harmonized with the nature....
The Noh play takes us into a world of delicate beauty.

The taste from the ancient 21st April 2005, 11:51

Here, is it what you had requested?

We had really beautiful season with cherry blossoms these days.
After walking in the Mt. Wakakusa covered by lovely cherry blossoms, I went to a casual Kaiseki restaurant "En". ("Kaiseki restaurants" are normaly very rich where you can have many kinds of small dishes in sequence in Tatami room, but here, in En, the food are served together in small porshons in a box plate shaped as Ohgi, the Japanese folding fan. There is no Tatami room, but wooden tables and chairs as you feel like you are in nature.)

In the "Today's lunch", you will have variety of dishes of organic foods.
For example, "Kirazu Ae", which is fish dressed with tofu refuse, Tempra of Sake lees as Nara is the origine of Sake, and rice with Tsukushi (a reproductive shoot of the field horsetail) and flower of cherry blossoms on top.

Also they serve special alcahols flavored with variety of fruits and other plants.
Here, that is Sake of double cherry blossoms.
They also have Sake of a pomegranate, an aloe, strawberry, etc.

Although Nara doesn't have many principal food, the dishes and Sake here in En could be the reminder as the specials in Nara.

The cherry blossoms and the deer on Mt. Wakakusa.
- They know the taste of Nara from the ancient....

Sakura- the traditional flower of Japan which brings spring with it.
It's almost fallen with the heavy rain these two days, but still, it coveres the streets as pink carpets.

Japanese like to drink under the Sakura trees this season.
you'll see many borachos and borachas all around!!
believe me, this is Japan!

OMIZUTORI - seasonal fire event of Todaiji Nigatsudo 12th April 2005, 10:15
wow it's been long time...
Spring has come here in Japan already.

Here is the traditional fire event of Todaiji Nigatsudo temple in Nara where we pray for good health and no desasters getting ready for coming spring.
My American friends were so excited when I brought them to this event some years ago.
You know, Japanese fire art is really sophsiticated as you can see in the techniques in fire works.
OMIZUTORI is not really artificial fire works, but so powerful event.

Ten "Otaimatsu", the torches carried by "Rengyoshu", the monks illminated the temple, the sky, and the faces of people gathered around.
"Rengyoshu" ran about on the stage around the temple with the torches and shower of the sparks covered the visitors.

It has been held for 1253 years since the enlightenment of Buddha in 752.

*general info*
How to ge to Todaiji Nigatsudo: about 30min walk from Nara station

Time: March 1st to 14th. (biggest event is held on 12th)

Happy New Open! 13th January 2005, 06:34
Hi, this is ANN originally from Nara, the oldest capital of Japan.
Though I learned shodo, not bushido unfortunatelly,
I'll introduce culture, tradition, places, people of Nippon!

First of all, here this is 'Horyuji' temple lacated in Nara.
It was built in early 7th century conducted by Shotoku Taishi,
known as the oldest Prince Regent in the period.
Its main hall, five storied pagoda and central gate, all located
in the temple's Saiin Garan (Western Precinct) are the world's
oldest surviving wooden structures.

official site of Horyuji http://www.horyuji.or.jp/horyuji_e.htm

HOW TO GET:
Horyuji is located about 12 km outside of central Nara.

By train: From JR Nara Station, take the frequently departing Yamatoji Line to Horyuji Station (12 minutes). From there, it is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride to the temple.

By bus: From JR or Kintetsu Nara Station, take bus number 60 which takes about 40 minutes to Horyuji-mae. Alternatively, take bus number 52, 97 or 98 which take about 15 minutes longer than bus number 60.
