wow it's been long time...
Spring has come here in Japan already.
Here is the traditional fire event of Todaiji Nigatsudo temple in Nara where we pray for good health and no desasters getting ready for coming spring.
My American friends were so excited when I brought them to this event some years ago.
You know, Japanese fire art is really sophsiticated as you can see in the techniques in fire works.
OMIZUTORI is not really artificial fire works, but so powerful event.
Ten "Otaimatsu", the torches carried by "Rengyoshu", the monks illminated the temple, the sky, and the faces of people gathered around.
"Rengyoshu" ran about on the stage around the temple with the torches and shower of the sparks covered the visitors.
It has been held for 1253 years since the enlightenment of Buddha in 752.
